Social Democratic Party (SDP) has inaugurated a five-man committee to investigate its suspended National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, and two other national officers over alleged N1 billion financial misconduct.
The committee, chaired by Abubakar Liman, has 14 days to conduct the investigation and report back to the party.
*Allegations of Financial Misconduct*

The suspended national officers are accused of gross financial misconduct, including funds generated from the 2023 general elections.
The party’s acting National Chairman, Dr. Sadiq Gombe, said the committee’s investigation is aimed at cleansing and repositioning the party for the upcoming elections.
The committee’s terms of reference include fact-finding the truth regarding the allegations of breaches of the SDP constitution, examining the state of the party’s accounts, and determining the circumstances surrounding the production and submission of audited accounts submitted to INEC.
The committee is also expected to recommend appropriate remedies and advise on better ways to manage the party’s finances.
Gombe urged the committee members to carry out their responsibility with utmost sense of duty, transparency, and fairness, without fear or favor.
He said, “Let the law, good conscience, and equity be your guiding principles… Let the truth be your anchor. Obey the rule of law and observe natural justice.”
The SDP National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, said the committee would investigate the alleged gross financial misappropriation and diversion of SDP funds estimated at over N1 billion.
Other party officials, including Mrs. Rosemary Effiong and Judith Shuaibu, also spoke on the suspension and investigation, alleging that Gabam had sole access to the party’s bank transactions and that the party’s financial status had never been discussed by the NWC.
