The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Thompson Sunday as Managing Director and Dr. Kabir Katata as Executive Director of the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).
Their confirmation followed the adoption of a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and Other Financial Institutions.
The committee, led by Senator Adetokunbo Abiru, found the nominees suitable for the roles, citing their expertise, knowledge, and professional experiences. Abiru said, “The nominees possessed the expertise, knowledge and professional experiences to be appointed as managing director and executive director of NDIC.”
The committee also noted that there were no petitions against their nominations and that they had been cleared by the Department of State Security.
Deputy Senate President Barau Jubrin commended the committee for the screening, stating that the confirmation would result in a proper structure of the NDIC board.
With this confirmation, Sunday and Katata are expected to assume their new roles, bringing their expertise to bear in safeguarding depositors’ funds and enhancing public confidence in Nigeria’s banking system.
