Sports veritable tool for National Integration – Defence Chief

The Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Christopher Musa has commended the Captain of the Calabar Golf Club Major General A.M.Sabo rtd and the Lady Captain Anne Ene Ita for putting up an impressive 2023 Inaugural golf competition of the club that attracted golfers and dignitaries across the Country to Calabar.

The Chief of Defence Staff, who was the special Guest of honour and represented by Major General Adenkule Aregibi disclosed that the military identify sports as a veritable instrument to meet the challenges the country is facing, hence, his plans to sponsor the half Marathon scheduled for Abuja where there will be prizes at stake including cars for the male and female winners.

Earlier, the Captain of Calabar Golf Club, Major General A.M.Sabo rtd had thanked the Chief of Defence Staff and other high profile golfers and dignitaries, who featured and added value to the big event.

Also speaking, the Lady Captain of the Club, Anne Ene Ita had used the occasion to thank the Captain and other members of the Club for working so hard for the successful event.

At the end of the tournament which covered 18 holes, an expatriate Staff of Larfarge Jean Marc emerged the overall winner with a nett of 72.

Charles Asogwu with a score of 78 nett became the runner up while Jackson Ofem was 3rd with a nett score of 79 .

In the veteran category, Paul Ebiala outweighed other big names around to emerge the champion with a nett score while Mike Mutoni became the runner up after garnering 77 nett.

Imelda Abah from Akwa-Ibom Golf Club was the winner in the Ladies category when she returned 70 nett while Helen Ayo became the runner up after scoring 72 nett.

Best gross winner (Male) was Sam Kalio, while Gladness Dan became the Ladies best nett winners.
