Rivers Peace Initiative has commended President Bola Tinubu for convening a peace meeting between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Assembly Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and other lawmakers.
The group’s convener, Obinna Ebogidi, in a stats on Friday, praised Tinubu’s statesmanship and commitment to peace in Rivers State and Nigeria.
“We are pleased that the reconciliatory meeting ended with an agreement to end the political crisis in the state,” Ebogidi said.
“This is a much-needed step, following nearly two years of political crisis that severely impacted governance in Rivers.”
Ebogidi described the peace agreement as long overdue and emphasized that choosing peace was better than allowing the crisis to continue.
“The Rivers Peace Initiative would continue to monitor the implementation of the peace agreement,” he added.
The convener commended Governor Fubara for prioritizing peace and stability over political pride and urged the State Assembly members to reciprocate the spirit of cooperation.
“We call on the State Assembly members to work with the executive to refocus its attention on development,” Ebogidi said.
He also urged those dissatisfied with the outcome to exercise restraint and pursue their grievances through democratic means.
“We encourage all parties to prioritize the welfare of the Rivers people,” Ebogidi emphasized
