Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani
The Kaduna State Government has allocated new plots of land to residents of Malali Low-Cost area in Kaduna whose homes were demolished during the administration of Nasir El-Rufai.
Presenting the land titles to beneficiaries, the Director General of Kaduna Geographic Information Service, Dr Bashir Garba Ibrahim, said the gesture was in fulfillment of Governor Uba Sani’s commitment to ensuring justice for affected residents.
He explained that the allocation followed resolutions reached at a stakeholders’ meeting held on January 21, which recommended a thorough review of the demolition carried out by the previous administration.
Dr Ibrahim urged beneficiaries to commence development on the plots without delay, advising them against reselling the land.
“We want you to become homeowners and contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the state,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, chairman of the former Malali Low-Cost residents, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal, expressed appreciation to the governor for addressing their long-standing grievances.
He recalled that residents had endured a nine-year struggle for compensation and commended the leadership of KADGIS for facilitating the allocation of new plots.
Other beneficiaries also lauded Governor Uba Sani for what they described as a compassionate and people-oriented leadership approach.
It would be recalled that the Kaduna State Development and Property Company issued a seven-day quit notice to residents in October 2020, which sparked protests over the short notice and demands for right of first refusal.
Although the initial decision was suspended, a fresh three-day notice was later issued in March 2021, after which over 80 structures were demolished.
Since then, affected homeowners had been engaging the state government, seeking compensation or alternative land, culminating in the recent allocation of plots.
