UBEC trains 40 Adamawa principals on accountability


The Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC) on Monday began the training of 40 principals of junior secondary schools on accountability and responsibility for effective management.

Speaking at the opening of the training in Yola, the Minister of Education, Alhaji Adamu Adamu, said that the workshop was designed to build the capacity of the principals for effective service delivery.

Adamu, who was represented by Dr James Fadokum, Head of Monitoring Evaluation, National Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, Ondo, urged participants to take active part in the workshop in order to learn how to be accountable and responsible.

“We are trying to improve the capacity of the education managers to be able to use resources in their care judiciously so that we can have a result-oriented education system,” he said.
According to him, it is not just an issue of funding but even time management, procurement process, accountability in teachers recruitment, teaching and learning process in the way the curriculum is being implemented.
The minister further said the training would help to ensure that the participants remained accountable to the community by promoting quality education for the children.

He said the training was taking place in 12 states, adding that more training was underway for the development of education in the country.
In his remark, the Executive Chairman of UBEC in Adamawa, Dr Salihi Ateequ, called on the participants to emulate the lives of prophets Muhammad and Isa in order to become successful leaders.

He advised them to be good role models for the students, urging them to realise that they should be accountable for their actions on the day of judgement.

He also warned them against asking for gratification while discharging their duties in their respective schools. (NAN)
