The Directors of Research and Development of Universities in the Northeast have held their maiden meeting at the Borno State University (BOSU) on Thursday .
A statement issued and signed by Abba A. Massa, The Public Relations Officer, (Office of the Vice Chancellor), BOSU Maiduguri, said the meeting was attended by representatives of six Universities physically while others attended virtually,.
The meeting which was convened by the Centre of Research and Development of the Borno State University was aimed at among others to identify series of problems confronting the region with a views to find possible solution for the attention of all concerned.
The Vice Chancellor, BOSU Professor Umar Kyari Sandabe, who declared the meeting open observed that, research is crucial to the development of any society and charged participants to find lasting solution to problems of insecurity, poverty and the shrinking Lake Chad, among others.
He commended the visitor to the university, Governor Babagana Zulum for his massive support to the University including attracting several intervention and equally appreciated organizations, and individuals for their support which helped immensely to the great development of the University.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Director of Centre for Research and Development BOSU, Professor. Yahya O. Iman, said the inaugural meeting was aimed at identifying challenges facing the North-east geo-political zone of Nigeria and proffer solutions for the identified. Challenges .
The Director added it was also to form multi-disciplinary research teams to write fundable research proposals that will address the challenges as well as identifying and approaching funding agencies locally and internationally to fund the proposals among others.
He however solicited the support of all Directors of Research and Development within the Universities in Northeast Nigeria to ensure that the above objectives are achieved.
“I will like to assure you that BOSU will provide a functional and effective secretariat and Hub for the execution of the collective decisions arrived at, at today’s and future meetings of the Research Directors within the Zone” Imam said.
Professor Imam further thanked the Management of BOSU under the leadership of Vice-Chancellor, Professor Umar Sandabe for approving the proposal to host the meeting and providing the logistics to ensure its success and members of CRD Family for their contributions and support.
Director of Research and Development, Bauchi State University (GADAU) Dr. Kabiru M. Karamba in his remark commended the Borno State Government for providing standard structures and facilities describing it as one of the best universities in the country.
