By SADIQ ABUBAKAR, Maiduguri –

Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, played host to the 7th National Council of Youth Development Meeting, a convergence of stakeholders from across Nigeria to deliberate on strategies for youth empowerment.

The event, held from December 9th to 13th, was officially inaugurated by His Excellency, Governor Babagana Zulum, a renowned advocate for youth development.

In his welcome address, the Borno State Commissioner for Youths, Sports, and Empowerment, Comrade Saina Buba, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Zulum for hosting the event despite the challenges posed by the September 10th flood tragedy.

“On behalf of the Borno State Government, I welcome all delegates and commend Governor Zulum for prioritizing this meeting, which highlights the peace and progress Maiduguri has achieved,” Buba stated.

The Nigeria Youth Workers Association (NYWA) honored Governor Zulum with the prestigious Fellowship of the Association, recognizing his exceptional contributions to youth development. They also announced the renaming of their National Secretariat in his honor.

“Governor Zulum’s achievements in empowering young people are unparalleled. Renaming our Secretariat after him reflects our immense admiration for his impact,” the Association’s Chairman declared.

Speaking at the event, the Honorable Minister of Youths, Ayodele Olawande, thanked Governor Zulum for hosting the meeting, which returned after a six-year hiatus.

“As the Renewed Hope Administration under President Tinubu repositions the youth development sector, Governor Zulum’s leadership in hosting this meeting signifies his alignment with the vision to empower young Nigerians for governance and economic advancement,” Olawande remarked.

The event’s highlight was the decoration of Governor Zulum as a Fellow of the Nigeria Youth Workers Association, marking a significant milestone in his dedication to youth empowerment.

This gathering not only reinforced Maiduguri’s resurgence as a center of peace and progress but also underscored Borno State’s pivotal role in shaping the national youth development agenda.
