The son of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Abba Atiku Abubakar, has formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), pledging support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abba Atiku was officially received into the ruling party on Thursday evening in Abuja by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, alongside the APC National Vice Chairman (North East), Mustafa Salihu.

Sources at the event said the move signals a strategic effort to mobilise grassroots backing for President Tinubu, particularly across the North East region.
As part of his political realignment, Abba Atiku announced the rebranding of the political platform he founded. The group, previously known as the Atiku Haske Organisation, has now been renamed the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation.
The organisation was originally established in 2022 to drive youth and grassroots political engagement. Its rebranding, observers say, underscores Abba Atiku’s commitment to advancing the political agenda of the APC and President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The defection adds a new twist to Nigeria’s evolving political landscape as early alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls.
