Defeated lawmakers
No fewer than 17 members of the House of Representatives have officially defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), deepening political shifts ahead of 2027.
The announcements were made during plenary on Tuesday, signaling a fresh wave of realignments within the lower chamber.
In a separate move, Leke Abejide also left the ADC to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Those who switched to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, and several others.
The list further features Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, Munachim Umezuruike, Jesse Onuakalusi, and Abdulhakeem Ado among others.
The defections come barely 48 hours after prominent opposition figures Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso formally joined the NDC.
Both leaders were received into the party by its national leadership following a closed-door meeting, marking a significant boost for the platform.
Obi had earlier blamed his exit from the ADC on internal crises and what he described as a toxic political environment, noting that rising pressure and systemic challenges were discouraging genuine public service.
