
Head Coach, Nigeria’s Senior National Basketball women’s team D’Tigress, Rena Wakama

Head Coach Rena Wakama has arrived in Abuja to join Nigeria’s Senior National Basketball women’s team, D’Tigress, as they prepare for the upcoming AfroBasket Championship in Cote D’Ivoire.
Wakama made history in 2023 as the first female head coach to lead Nigeria to four consecutive FIBA AfroBasket Women titles.
Under her leadership, D’Tigress also became the first African team to reach the quarterfinals of basketball at the 2024 Paris Olympics, earning her FIBA’s Best Coach award.
Team Preparations
Fourteen players have already reported to the Abuja camp, with more expected to join soon.
The current roster includes talented players like Solape Amusan, Olawuyi Adenike, Murja Musa, Amy Okonkwo, and star player Ezinne Kalu.
The team is gearing up for the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship, scheduled to take place in Abidjan from July 26 to August 3.
