CBT exams for civil servants in Abuja
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission launched a groundbreaking computer-based promotion examination for 915 Assistant and Deputy Directors on Tuesday in Abuja, marking a significant step toward modernizing the promotion process.
Commission Chairman Emeka Eze, speaking at the event, explained that the candidates were selected from various FCT bodies, including the Universal Basic Education Board, Secondary Education Board, Education Secretariat, and other agencies.
“This computer-based examination ensures that those promoted to substantive director roles are equipped to tackle the technology-driven challenges of their positions,” Eze stated, emphasizing the initiative’s alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Eze highlighted the innovative approach, noting, “We are the first commission in Nigeria to introduce computer-based promotion examinations. Results will be available by next week, eliminating interference or external pressures.”
He credited FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for establishing the commission with presidential approval to address longstanding promotion backlogs.
“When Wike assumed office in August 2023, he cleared promotions pending since 2019 up to the deputy director level,” Eze added.
The commission is also conducting a workforce verification exercise to determine the FCT’s staffing strength, with Eze assuring that remaining promotion backlogs would be resolved once the verification is complete.
He revealed that the process uncovered instances of age falsification in service records, leading to the retirement of those involved.
The South-East representative on the commission, Mr. Martins Azubuike, underscored the examination’s rigor, stating, “Those who fail to pass this test will not be promoted.
The computer-based system is here to stay, pushing workers to enhance their digital skills.”
