In a historic first for Borno State, Bukar Grema, a devoted fan of northern Nigeria’s iconic Hausa musician Dauda Rara, proudly named his newborn son after the legendary singer.
The joyous occasion unfolded on Wednesday amid a vibrant crowd gathered at a mosque in the Fori area of Maiduguri, marking a unique celebration that captured the hearts of many.
Bukar, a Kanuri native, shared with journalists that naming his son Dauda Rara was a dream seven years in the making.
“I’ve always been captivated by Rara’s music,” he said, his eyes gleaming with passion.
“His songs have been my joy for nearly a decade, and though I’ve never met him or share any relation, my love for his artistry inspired me to honor him with my son’s name.”
The naming ceremony turned Bukar’s home into a hub of festivity, drawing family, friends, neighbors, and well-wishers in a first-of-its-kind celebration in Maiduguri.
The air buzzed with excitement as the community came together to welcome the newborn, named after a musical hero whose melodies have resonated across northern Nigeria.
Fori’s Ward Head, Bolama Modu Ngoma, hailed the gesture, saying, “This is a beautiful moment for our community. We pray young Dauda Rara grows to embody the spirit of his namesake.”
The baby’s mother, Bintu Abba, radiated joy as she praised her husband’s heartfelt decision. Her younger sister, Fanna Abba, echoed the sentiment, offering prayers for the child’s bright future.
The maternal grandmother also showered blessings on the family, touched by the unique tribute.
Bukar’s best friend, Fantami Kawuri, revealed the depth of his friend’s devotion.
“For years, Bukar prayed for a son to name after Dauda Rara. His love for the musician is unmatched, and today, that dream has come true.”
The naming of baby Dauda Rara is more than a personal milestone—it’s a testament to the power of music to inspire and unite. As the Fori community celebrated, the event left an indelible mark on Maiduguri, blending tradition with a modern nod to a cultural icon.
