Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Mr. Peter Obi, on Friday joined family, friends, and admirers of late highlife icon Dr. Mike Ejeagha to bid him a final farewell in Enugu State.
Obi, who shared the solemn moment via his official X handle, said he travelled from Lagos to Enugu in the morning before proceeding to Imezi-Owa in Ezeagu Local Government Area, where the revered musician was laid to rest.

Reflecting on the ceremony, Obi described Ejeagha—fondly called “Gwo Gwo Gwom”—as a man whose life and music left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s cultural landscape.
> “In the quiet solemnity of that sacred moment, surrounded by his loved ones and a reverend father, we offered prayers at his graveside, commending his noble soul to the Almighty,” Obi wrote.

He praised the late legend for a life “richly lived,” noting that his works not only entertained but also taught timeless lessons about truth, morality, and community.
> “May his passing remind us of the beauty of a life dedicated to service, culture, and truth,” Obi added. “May his memory inspire us to use our own gifts for the good of society, and to live in a manner worthy of remembrance.”

Dr. Mike Ejeagha, who passed away a few months ago, was a celebrated highlife musician, storyteller, and folklorist whose songs, delivered in his native Igbo language, educated generations on values and wisdom drawn from African tradition.
As tributes continue to pour in, Obi’s presence at the burial underscored his enduring commitment to celebrating cultural icons who used their talents to uplift society.
> “Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord; and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen,” Obi concluded.
