Senator Ireti Kingibe
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has levelled a series of allegations against the Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, accusing her of actions it described as detrimental to the party and its electoral prospects.
In a statement issued by the FCT Publicity Secretary, Nwigbo Chukwudi Samuel, the party chapter outlined what it called “the many sins of Distinguished Senator Ireti and why her suspension is justifiable.”
The statement accused the lawmaker of allegedly withholding funds meant for campaign activities during the recent Area Council elections in the FCT.
“Distinguished Senator Ireti intentionally withheld funds meant for campaigns during the recent Area Council election. After the election, when the deed was fully done and ADC has fully lost, she summoned the candidates and bribed them to keep shut claiming the money she raised was for her personal projects. Why release the money after the election when the party has already lost out. What else is anti party if not things like this,” the statement said.
The FCT chapter further alleged that the senator failed to provide financial support to party executives during the election period, leaving members to shoulder operational costs personally.
“The Distinguished Senator also deliberately starved the entire party and her EXCOs of funds, ensuring that we were never able to meet up with necessary activities to prosecute the huge demands of the election knowing fully well that we were paying for the running of the party from our personal funds. Haba, don’t we have a sitting Senator again?” the statement added.
*Dispute Over Party Office*
The chapter also accused Kingibe of withdrawing a party office previously provided to the ADC in the FCT under unclear circumstances.
“Senator Ireti gave us a party office and turned back to retrieve it under strange circumstances for no justifiable reasons. Till date, ADC FCT is still holding important strategic meetings under trees even when we have a sitting senator,” Samuel said.
According to the statement, although the senator later claimed to have restored the office, it had allegedly not been fully handed over to the party leadership.
“She later claimed to have restored the same office but till date, has refused to fully handover the same to us. It’s still operating as her constituency office. Who does that.”
*Alleged Suspension of Party Activities*
The FCT ADC leadership also faulted a memo allegedly issued by the senator suspending party activities in the territory.
“Distinguished Senator Ireti unilaterally claimed through her internally memo dated 9th March, 2026 and shared widely across our platforms that she has suspended all party activities in the FCT till further notice, a step she doesn’t have any constitutional backing to take,” the statement said.
The chapter argued that such a move was particularly troubling given the proximity of party primaries and upcoming elections.
“When one thinks that she took this step a month to a primary election leading to a major election in the country, what else would you call anti party?” Samuel stated.
Despite the accusations, the FCT chapter appealed to the party’s national leadership to intervene and help resolve the dispute.
“Let me kindly appeal to all the members of the NWC that ADC FCT has chosen the party and the country over an individual. We are suing for peace and our rights needs to be respected. Both party must be summoned to iron this out amicably. Do not attempt to muzzle or intimidate us into silence. We also deserve to be heard because this party belongs to all of us. We just want peace.”
Samuel added that members of the chapter remained committed to working with the party leadership to ensure unity ahead of future elections.
“And in the Spirit of friendship, we extend a warm HANDSHAKE of peace and cooperation as we look forward to going into this election as a united force and face the real giant waiting for us. May God help us succeed.”
