Borno lawmaker, Dr. Usman Midala Balami
Lawmaker representing Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency in Borno State, Hon. Dr. Midala Usman Balami, has expressed deep sympathy to the families of 11 victims, including four vigilantes, killed during a recent Boko Haram attack on Pubagu village in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, saw armed insurgents storm the community, killing residents and setting a church ablaze in a wave of destruction that has reignited concerns over security in the area.
Balami also extended condolences to families affected by similar attacks in other parts of his constituency, including Lehu in Mussa Ward of Askira-Uba and Kwajjaffa Harang in Hawul LGA, where lives were lost in separate incidents last week.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Askira-Uba Local Government Area, Hon. Mada Saidu, visited Pubagu on Wednesday. During the visit to Rumirgo Ward, he expressed shock at what he described as a resurgence of terrorist activities in the area.
Reacting to the incidents, the federal lawmaker called on government and security agencies to step up efforts to safeguard lives and property, warning that communities in his constituency are increasingly vulnerable to repeated attacks.
He lamented that beyond the recurring loss of lives, several residents have been abducted and remain in captivity without rescue.
“It is very unfortunate that Boko Haram terrorists are wrecking havoc almost on daily basis in my constituency without confrontation.
Just yesterday (Tuesday), some armed terrorists invaded Pubagu and killed 11 people including for local vigilantes who paid the supreme price in defence of our people.
Let me extend my sincere condolences to the families of those killed, and may God Almighty grant Eternal Rest to their Souls, even as I wished the injured ones quick recovery.
“Just last week, some communities in Askira-Uba local government area including Lehu came under deadly attacks and destructions.
“More than 20 people were also kidnapped along Biu-Buratai Damaturu road, with some people of Hawul LGA were victims.
“I enjoined Government and our Security Operatives who have been doing well in the fight against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to intensify efforts in order to end the war,” Balami said.
He further commended Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, for supporting local vigilante groups as part of efforts to complement security operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters. However, he stressed the need for more proactive and sustained strategies to bring an end to over a decade of insurgency in the region.
In a related development, unconfirmed reports suggest that insurgents also attacked Mayolade, a community in neighbouring Adamawa State, on the same day, where at least nine people were reportedly killed.
The renewed wave of violence has heightened fears among residents, with calls growing louder for decisive action to curb the persistent insurgency in Nigeria’s North-East.
