Managing Director of NSITF, Oluwaseun Faleye
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), Barrister Oluwaseun Faleye, has expressed sadness over the death of Mr. Sylvester Enoghase, Labour Editor and Group Business Editor of Daily Independent Newspapers.
Faleye, in a condolence message on Wednesday, described the late journalist as a dedicated professional whose work on the labour beat helped advance the cause of Nigerian workers for more than two decades.
He said Enoghase earned widespread respect through his commitment to reporting labour and industrial relations issues and his support for workers’ welfare.
According to the NSITF boss, the news of Enoghase’s death came as a shock to the management and staff of the Fund.
“Mr. Enoghase was an exceptional journalist, a committed advocate for workers’ welfare, and a steadfast ally of the Nigerian labour movement,” Faleye said.
He noted that throughout his career, the veteran journalist demonstrated professionalism, courage and dedication in covering labour matters across the country.
Faleye said Enoghase’s contributions to workers’ rights, workplace safety and healthy working conditions would not be forgotten, adding that he consistently used his platform to amplify the concerns of ordinary Nigerian workers.
The NSITF chief also recalled Enoghase’s tenure as Chairman of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria (LAWAN), describing his leadership as one that helped strengthen labour journalism and deepen engagement among stakeholders in the world of work.
“His unwavering commitment to social justice and the welfare of working people will remain a lasting legacy,” he said.
Faleye further noted that Enoghase had only recently returned from Geneva, Switzerland, where he covered the 114th International Labour Conference of the International Labour Organization (ILO), a commitment he said reflected the journalist’s passion for the profession until his final days.
On behalf of the NSITF family, Faleye extended condolences to Enoghase’s immediate family, the management and staff of Daily Independent Newspapers, members of LAWAN, the Labour Correspondents Association of Nigeria (LACAN), as well as the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the wider labour movement.
He prayed for God to grant the family, friends, colleagues and all those mourning the late journalist the strength to bear the loss, while asking for eternal rest for his soul.
