Benue State Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN) has elected its officials to run the affairs of the association.
The election of the association which was held on Saturday at the NUJ house in Makurdi saw the emergence of Ms. Hembadoon Orsar of Leadership Newspaper as the Chairman of the association in the state.
Speaking during the election, the National President of SWAN, Isaiah Benjamin who was represented by Ikenna Okonkwo to supervise the conduct of the election appreciated SWAN members in the state for their resolve to embrace peace for the progress of the association.
The National President, who also acknowledged the support of the Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia for sports development in the state urged him to maintain the spirit.
He noted with emphasis the place of SWAN members in the society insisting that sports is next to ICT given it’s importance in the world.
The National President charged the new leadership of SWAN to come up with positive ideas to move SWAN forward and urged all SWAN members to think outside the box to enable them not to live from hand to mouth.
In his comment, the Caretaker Chairman of NUJ, Benue State Council, Mr. Vincent Nyinongo charged the SWAN members to come up with ways of improving the lives of their members.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr. Julius Atom had appreciated the SWAN members for their support and cooperation while preparing for the election.
Atom also acknowledged the vital role played by the Commissioner for Sports and Creativity, Terkimbi Ikyange, who stood firm for SWAN to remain one indivisible body and ensured the conduct of the election.
In her acceptance speech, the new Chairman of SWAN in the state, Hembadoon Orsar acknowledged the contributions of all members of the association in ensuring her victory at the election.
While promising to carry everyone along in her leadership, Orsar said leadership is a joint role and everybody should come up with useful ideas to move the association forward even as she called on those she contested with not to hesitate to bring their ideas together for the benefit of SWAN in Benue State.
