
Late former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais,

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has paid tribute to the late former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mohammed Uwais, who has passed away.
Buhari described Uwais as a distinguished lawyer and judge who made notable contributions to Nigeria’s judicial system.
In a statement issued on Friday by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, Buhari said Uwais was admired for his compassion and justice, and his work helped strengthen Nigeria’s democratic fabric.
He praised Uwais’s meticulous approach to law, which earned him respect as a judge and member of the Council of States.
“Justice Uwais had a distinguished career as a lawyer and a judge… He made notable contributions in bringing justice closer to the people,” Buhari said.
“He was admired for his compassion and justice. He made important contributions toward making Nigeria’s democratic fabric stronger. He will always be remembered by countless people for his emphasis on a meticulous approach to law as a judge and a member of the Council of States.”
Buhari extended his heartfelt condolences to Uwais’s family, relatives, and friends, saying, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family members, relatives, and friends who are grieving his loss as we all are.”
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that Uwais had a long and illustrious career, serving as CJN, Chairman of the Electoral Reforms Committee, and holding various positions in the judiciary, including 16 years in the Court of Appeal.
