Calm prevails in Benue as residents shun nationwide protests
By TYAV SAM TYAV, Makurdi –
There was absolute calm in Benue State and people went about their normal activities as there was no protest in the state over the hardship experienced in Nigeria by Nigerians.
Checks by NATIONAL ACCORD revealed that the absolute calm in the state was not unconnected with the series of pleas by the state Governor, Hyacinth Alia, the Tor Tiv and Chairman Benue State Council of Traditional Rulers, Prof. James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, leaders of associations and groups.
Governor Alia and the Tor Tiv particularly appealed to the Benue people not to participate in the protest as they insisted that President Bola Tinubu would address the problem of hardship.
Even as there was no protest in Benue State, it was observed that there was heavy presence of security operatives at the major roads in the state, particularly the state capital, Makurdi.
It was gathered that there was no gathering of people that looked suspicious in any part of the state which clearly indicated that Benue people actually complied with the pleas of the Benue leaders.
