
The Amanta Amagu Ishiagu community in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been thrown into mourning following the passing of one of its revered elders, Mr. Joseph Orieji Ajah, who died at the age of 93.
According to the family, Mr. Ajah slept in the Lord on June 7, 2025, at the David Umahi Federal Hospital, Uburu, Ohaozara LGA, after a brief health challenge.
Born on June 4, 1932, he was widely regarded as a devoted family man, a respected community figure, and a moral pillar within Amanta Amagu Ishiagu.
Burial activities released by the family indicated that a wake-keep will be held at his residence in Amanta Amagu Ishiagu on Monday, December 22, 2025.
This will be followed by a Requiem Mass scheduled for Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Amagu Ishiagu, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Internment will take place immediately afterward at his compound, while guests will be received at both the family compound and Ihuona Agabi Primary School.
A Thanksgiving Mass is slated for Thursday, December 25, 2025, also at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, starting at 9:00 a.m.
Speaking on behalf of the family, the eldest son, Mr. Christopher Ajah, described his late father as “a man of peace, humility, and unwavering dedication to the community,” noting that his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
The community continues to pay tribute to the life and contributions of the late nonagenarian as preparations for his final rites progress.
