Ebonyi State Police Command has verified the gruesome beheading of Dick Nnachi, a middle-aged man, in Oso-Edda, located within the Edda Local Government Area.
The incident, which occurred on Thursday, was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, in a statement on Sunday.
The communities of Oso-Edda and Amasiri in Afikpo Local Government Area have been locked in a protracted dispute over land ownership, fueling tensions in the region.
DSP Ukandu condemned the killing, calling it “a barbaric and deplorable act.”
He further noted, “Our officers have been deployed to the contested area, and we are actively investigating to uncover the cause of this tragedy and ensure justice is served.”
Ukandu emphasized ongoing efforts to restore calm and prevent further violence, urging residents to steer clear of the disputed zone.
“As declared by Governor Francis Nwifuru, the area is a designated buffer zone,” he stated.
“We urge both communities to respect this directive and avoid actions that could escalate the conflict.”
