The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 7 Division Nigerian Army in Maimamalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Brigadier General AGL Haruna, has emphasized the urgent need for counter improvised explosive device (IED) awareness.
He made this assertion while declaring open a one-day seminar on counter IED awareness for stakeholders in Maiduguri, held at the Theater Command Officers Mess, Maimamalari Cantonment.

Brig. Gen. Haruna said the seminar aims to address the increasing threat posed by terrorists in the North East, who have resorted to using IEDs as their weapon of choice, putting lives and properties at risk. Despite concerted efforts by troops, stakeholders, and partners, the menace of IEDs persists.
General Haruna stressed the importance of continuous awareness campaigns to combat this threat.
“Therefore, it is pertinent to leave no stone unturned and become more ingenious in defeating this menace. Hence, the importance of bringing together key officials of various ministries and organizations for CIED awareness seminar cannot be overemphasized.
“The CIED awareness seminar is designed to place significant emphasis on addressing the threat posed by Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which remain a primary weapon employed by insurgents.
“Today’s seminar is design to equip you with the necessary knowledge essential for effective identification of IED making materials and the need to confiscate as well as prevent their proliferation to terrorists enclaves.
“Your role as key stakeholders is pivotal in achieving our mission end state, as well as in ensuring the overall security and stability of the North East.
“Let us therefore make the seminar a worthy endeavor to save the lives in our work place. Remember that the effectiveness of our collective efforts hinges on the individual contributions of every member of our various organization.
” Your contributions in this awareness seminar will not only enhance the security landscape within Maiduguri but also inspire confidence and trust among the populace.,” Gen. Haruna said.
He further extended his sincere appreciation to the Commander 47 Engineer Brigade for his preparation and commitment to making this awareness seminar a reality, stressing that, he expect maximum cooperation and contribution from all participants in order to achieve the objectives of this seminar.
The GOC noted also that the facilitators are available to assist the participants while asking them not to hesitate to clear their doubts during the fruitful deliberation to enhance collective effort. End
