Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang has declared an end to factional politics within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, urging the newly elected state executive members to embrace unity, forgiveness, and collective responsibility as the foundation for rebuilding the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor made the declaration on Saturday at the Waye Foundation, Du, Jos South Local Government Area, during the state congress of the PDP, where Chief Raymond Dabo emerged as State Chairman alongside 38 other executive members.
Describing the peaceful conduct of the congress as a milestone in the party’s history, Mutfwang said it marked a new chapter of inclusiveness and reconciliation within the Plateau PDP.
“Since I joined the PDP, this is the first state congress we are holding without a contest. With this, we have demonstrated our loyalty, discipline, and readiness to work as one family. The time of exclusion is over. We must unite and go into 2027 as one happy and united family under one leadership and one umbrella,” Mutfwang stated.
The governor commended aspirants who stepped down to allow for consensus, describing their decision as a reflection of political maturity and selflessness. He charged the new executive members to consolidate on the gains of reconciliation and ensure constant engagement across all zones for stronger cohesion within the party.
“Those who truly belong will remain. We are giving everyone the opportunity to have their grievances addressed, and nobody will be discriminated against. Plateau is PDP, and PDP is Plateau, our connection with the people remains our greatest strength,” he emphasized.
Announcing the results, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Hon. David Embughadu, declared Chief Dabo as State Chairman with 2,162 votes, while Engr. Gyang Tanko emerged Deputy Chairman with 2,102 votes. Mr. Michael Dachom was elected State Secretary, and Dr. Felix Choji as Publicity Secretary, among other officers.
Embughadu described the exercise as transparent and credible, noting that it fully complied with the provisions of the PDP Constitution. He commended the peaceful conduct of delegates and the supervision of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) who observed the process.
In his valedictory remarks, outgoing State Chairman, Hon. Chris Hassan, appreciated his team for their resilience, recalling that under his leadership, the PDP produced a governor, two senators, five members of the House of Representatives, and sixteen state lawmakers in the 2023 elections before judicial setbacks. He described the congress as further proof that the PDP remains the dominant political force in Plateau State.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Raymond Dabo expressed gratitude to delegates for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to lead with integrity and transparency.
“We receive this call to duty with humility and a deep sense of responsibility,” he said. “Our first task is reconciliation, to reach every local government, every ward, and every home to restore unity. The new executive will ensure credible and transparent primaries as we prepare for 2027.”
The congress, attended by senior government officials, party stalwarts, and representatives from the PDP National Secretariat, was widely described as peaceful and well organized, setting the tone for renewed stability and strategic rebuilding of the party across Plateau State.
