NOA tasks religious leaders on sexual and gender-based violence in Kano

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), as part of statutory mandate, has made a pledge with all religious leaders, relevant stakeholders and influential personnel to address issues of violence against male and female children in Kano.

The State Director of the Agency, Alhaji Lawal Haruna, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Tuesday in Kano.

According to Haruna, we have designed a pledge for all the relevant stakeholders to sign on sexual and gender-based violence, with a vow to use their offices to protect the vulnerable at all times and to ensure that victims get justice.

“The issue of rape and sexual abuse among male and female children is on the high level, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Since then we have been advocating, sensitizing and educating the issue of rape cases and gender abuse on its danger and how to curb it.

“The sensitization campaigns had started at the grassroots level of all the local government areas, state governments, major markets, market women groups, etc.

“Stakeholders include community leaders, religious organisations, community-based organisations, among others, had pledged their support for this ongoing NOA campaign.

Haruna added that all NOA staff from the 44 local government area in the state will distribute the pledge forms so as to help save society from sexual crimes. (NAN)
