A coalition of opposition parties has formed in Gombe State to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government of Governor Inuwa Yahaya.
The coalition comprises the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party, and some aggrieved APC members who have defected to the opposition.
Jibrin Barde, PDP’s 2023 governorship candidate and convener of the group, stated that the coalition aims to provide quality leadership and governance in the state.
He expressed concerns over the APC government’s failure to meet campaign promises and improve residents’ welfare, describing the administration as “incompetent and insensitive”.
“The APC government in Gombe has failed to deliver on its promises, and it’s time for a change,” Barde said.
“We seek a responsible, transparent, accountable, and competent government that delivers good governance and services.”
Adamu Modibbo, SDP chairman in Gombe State, called on other political groups and residents to join the coalition, emphasizing the need for inclusive governance and collective benefit for the state.
“We are ready to work with anyone who shares our vision for a better Gombe State,” Modibbo said.
The coalition’s formation is seen as a significant development in Gombe State politics, with potential implications for the 2027 elections. As the opposition parties unite, they are likely to pose a formidable challenge to the APC’s dominance in the state.
