Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mocked the dwindling ranks of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that those still clinging to the opposition are merely hanging around to conduct its political funeral.
In a statement issued on Saturday, APC’s spokesperson, Mr. Seye Oladejo, responded to the latest wave of defections from the PDP into the ruling party, describing the development as “the natural collapse of a party built on deceit and failed promises.”
“The PDP’s claim that defections won’t break it is not only laughable but exposes the party’s chronic state of denial, delusion, and self-deception,” Oladejo stated.
“This is not just routine political movement—it’s the direct fallout of years of betrayal, lack of ideology, and internal chaos.”
He likened the PDP to a house built on quicksand, noting that its implosion was only a matter of time.
“Even its most loyal members no longer believe in the party. Those who remain are likely the undertakers—staying behind to perform the final rites of what’s now a political carcass.”
Oladejo argued that the APC had long predicted this unraveling, citing the PDP’s “over-reliance on propaganda and empty rhetoric” rather than substance.
He recalled the PDP’s 16-year rule, which he claimed was marked by widespread mismanagement and lack of direction.
“There’s no resurrection possible for a party that still operates as a ‘cesspool of confusion and leadership vacuum.’ You don’t rebuild credibility overnight,” he added.
Referring to the recent high-profile defections—including the switch by the last two PDP lawmakers in the Ondo State House of Assembly—Oladejo claimed it was further proof of the growing appeal of President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
He warned that the PDP would do well to accept its fading relevance. “It’s time for the former ‘largest party in Africa’ to take a hard look in the mirror, conduct a post-mortem, and walk alone toward its inevitable exit in 2027.”
“These defections aren’t just symbolic wins for the APC—they’re clear messages from the Nigerian people. The era of deceitful opposition is done. The citizens are aligning with stability, genuine leadership, and national progress.”
Recently, several PDP figures at both state and federal levels have recently joined the APC, as internal turmoil continues to shake the opposition to its core.
Among the latest to jump ship are Mr. Olajide Oguntodu, former Minority Leader in the Ondo State House of Assembly (Akure South 1), and his deputy, Mr. Oluwatoyin Daodu (Akoko South West 1), both citing unresolved internal strife within the PDP.
As the 2027 political terrain begins to take shape, the PDP now faces its toughest battle yet—not just against the ruling party, but for its very survival.
