Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed
By ARMSTRONG ALLAHMAGANI, Bauchi –
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has said that most of the things Nigerian youths are saying which are prompting them to go on the nationwide protests are true.
The Governor who admitted that there is hunger and anger in the land, however, appealed to them to shelve the planned protest and seek for dialogue with the government through whatever means possible.
He stated this in his opening address at the State Executive Council meeting at the Exco Chamber of the Government House on Wednesday.
Mohammed urged members of his cabinet to do everything within their power to reduce the cost of governance especially as it relates to frequent travels abroad and to Abuja.
He assured that his administration will concentrate on education and health and other services, including agriculture, which would be made a hub of Small Medium Enterprises because they have to provide jobs for the uneducated who are many scattered across the villages pointing out that these are the government’s challenges.
“We have to use knowledge to change our social and economic sector, our GDP must improve, we can create economic activities around agriculture and SMEs and not this kind of palliation that we give and is costing us so much. Creating employment generates money while reducing cost of governance.
“So I plead with you that we must do something to reduce the cost of governance, our travels especially some of us trying to travel abroad or go to Abuja, it’s costing us a lot of money especially now.
“You have heard what the youths are saying that we are spending so much money. While urging them to please understand with government and shelve their protest and come to us for discussion in whatever form either through town his meetings or writing letters. We will also acknowledge that most of the things that they are saying are true because there is a lot of hunger and anger.
“We must be able to fill up the ungoverned spaces in the country to provide good governance, to provide direction and reduce cost of living,” he stated.
