Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, for establishing the Kaduna State Council on Skills, describing the initiative as a benchmark for sub-national governments across the country.
The commendation was conveyed in a letter by the National Council on Skills (NCS), following its recent session where it reviewed progress on skills development nationwide.
According to the Vice President, Governor Sani’s decision to personally chair the State Council reflects strong leadership and aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda aimed at boosting employment and economic growth.
He noted that the creation of a dedicated institutional framework for skills development underscores Kaduna State’s proactive approach to tackling unemployment and promoting human capital development.
Shettima described the establishment of the Council as a significant milestone that highlights the administration’s commitment to integrated economic growth and sustainable development.
The Vice President further stated that the NCS considers the “Kaduna Model” a practical template for the bottom-up approach to skills acquisition, which ensures that vocational and technical training reaches grassroots communities effectively.
While urging the state government to sustain the momentum, he expressed the Council’s readiness to deepen collaboration with Kaduna State in harmonising standards and expanding the impact of skills development programmes.
Under Governor Sani’s administration, Kaduna State has expanded technical and vocational education through the establishment of three modern training centres under the Kaduna State Institute of Vocational Training and Skills Development (KIVTSD).
The centres, located in Soba, Rigachikun and Samarun Kataf across the three senatorial zones, are projected to produce about 12,000 skilled artisans annually, with trainees receiving certification upon completion in various trades.
In addition, the state government is partnering with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to ensure proper accreditation, while plans are underway to transform the Panteka Market into a major industrial hub for artisans in welding, carpentry, masonry and related trades.
