
Vehicles intercepted with illicit drugs in Nasarawa
Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have foiled a drug trafficking attempt in Akwanga Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
The incident occurred on October 14, 2025, during a routine stop-and-search operation.
A statement dated 14/10/2025 and signed by the Acting Media Information Officer of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu and posted on official Army’s Facebook page, made this statement known.
According to the statement, the driver of an ash-colored Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos) abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the troops. Despite a swift pursuit, the suspect managed to evade arrest.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several bags of substances suspected to be marijuana. The vehicle and recovered exhibits are currently in military custody for further investigation.
The Force Commander Joint Task Force Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism. He praised their efforts in denying criminal elements freedom of action in the region.
The operation is part of efforts to enhance security and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States. The troops’ swift action has boosted confidence in the military’s ability to tackle security challenges.
The case will be handed over to relevant authorities for further investigation and prosecution. The military’s efforts to combat drug trafficking and other crimes in the region are ongoing.
