PATRICK ABANG, Calabar.
The Commissioner representing Cross River State in the National Population Commission (NPC), Mr. Charles Ogwa, has assured Nigeria that it would give the country accurate population data in 2022 with the use of high level of technology and quality trained man power.
Mr. Ogwa gave the assurance in Calabar on Tuesday while speaking with newsmen on the preparations of the exercise in November, 2022.
He explained that NPC has put in place serious and rigorous advocacy to educate the country and that the Public Affairs Department of NPC has set up committees at the national, state and ward level for the exercise.
The Cross River State NPC representative further said that the 2022 census would give Nigeria accurate population data and that there was the need for everybody to get agitated and support the conduct of the exercise that will be agreeable and acceptable by Nigerians.
Mr. Ogwa also said that the basic preparation have been the demarcation of areas by drafting the land mass into smaller units to enable enumerators complete their work within a specified time limit.
According to him, “the commission had earlier proposed May 2022 but the Federal Government extended it to November, 2022 not on security reason or ill preparations but to tidy and fine tune the process which is purely electronic to be tested and fully prepared”.
The Federal Commissioner further said that the commission would capture every building during the exercise and that there would not be any interference, corruption. He also assured that the commission’s manpower has received quality training.
“The assurance is that what we are giving Nigeria is that no body will move immediately he or she is captured and it will reflect on the state of origin.”
“Terrain will not be an obstacle in the 2022 National Population Census because every body has been trained and adapted to the situation.”
“NPC will give Nigeria a zero tolerance in political and ethnic influence in the 2022 National Population exercise.”
“The budget had been presented and the appropriation bill has been given assent by Mr. President.”
