Tony Okoroji
AUSTIN FAIR, Lagos
Although he has not made any major breakthrough since he sojourned into the music world close to two decades ago, Godfrey Mark still believes that his ’luck will shine’ one day.
For the period he has romanced music, crisscrossing from one genre to the other in search of relevance, he fraternizes with colleagues and platforms that bind the music players. That way, life goes on as he hopes and prays for a triumph.
This day as he sauntered into one of the studios around Ikeja ‘’to rehearse,’’ Mark who combines musicbiz with random marketing to maintain his average family, made one startling confession; that things have not been easy since the lockdown, but thanked the Copyright Society of NIGERIA [Coson] for coming to the rescue of musicians in the heat of it all.
‘’God really came down and rescued us through Coson. As little or much the palliative was, it restored life and hope in many of us. You know we cannot survive without doing anything for a day but it was in weeks. Some of us were already searching for an escape route when God used our able chairman, Chief Tony Okoroji to save the situation. The struggle continues though. I will always remain loyal to Coson.’’
It will be recalled that the copyright management organization doled out stimulus to Nigerian musicians during the major lockdown that kept everybody inside for weeks.
