Retired Delta State High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu
A sense of shock swept through a quiet Asaba neighbourhood on Monday after retired Delta State High Court Judge, Justice Ifeoma Okogwu, was discovered brutally murdered inside her residence.
Security sources according to Zagazola Makama, noted that the respected jurist was found lifeless in her sitting room at No. 8 Tom Halen Street, behind IBTC Bank.
Her hands and legs had been tied, and her mouth was covered with a wrapper—clear signs that she had been subdued before her death.
Her brother, Emeka Okogwu, made the grim discovery around 8:00 a.m. after arriving for a visit and immediately alerted the police. Officers swiftly deployed patrol teams to the property.
In the course of preliminary investigation, the police apprehended the on-duty security guard, Lucky Matthew, for questioning. Another guard, identified as Godwin Vanen, was nowhere to be found and has since been declared wanted by investigators.
Police authorities confirmed that Justice Okogwu’s body has been taken to Maduemeie Hospital Mortuary in Asaba.
According to them, efforts are now focused on uncovering the motive behind the killing and identifying those responsible.
The case has been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, for what officials described as a “discreet and thorough investigation.”
