Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has signaled it is ready to help Lagos State roll out the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS).
The state government has approved full implementation of the scheme.
NSITF Managing Director, Oluwaseun Faleye, led a team to meet Lagos Head of Service, Bode Agoro, on Thursday. They discussed how the scheme would work across the state’s public institutions.
Faleye said NSITF would provide technical help, train staff, handle claims, and support workplace safety.
He added that Lagos’ size and workforce complexity meant careful planning was needed. “We want to make sure this works smoothly. Lagos has a lot of agencies and a big workforce, so planning is key,” he said.

He also linked ECS to the state’s THEMES+ agenda, saying it protects workers, helps employers manage risks, and promotes safer workplaces.
He suggested compliance could be included in state contracts and procurement so organisations meet basic worker protection rules.
Agoro welcomed the plans and said Lagos would go ahead with full implementation. A dedicated unit will be set up in the state to manage the scheme.
With this step, Lagos is moving to strengthen worker protection in one of the country’s busiest hubs. NSITF and the state are expected to move quickly from planning to action.
