Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Zone 4, Zachariah Achinyan has assured of cooperation and strong collaboration with journalists to achieve more effective policing in the zone.
The AIG, who disclosed this during a courtesy call on him by journalists in Benue State led by their Chairman Comrade Bemdoo Ugber, encouraged journalists to put searchlights on those believed to have hatred for the media.
Achinyan told journalists that the doors to his office were open for stronger cooperation and collaboration with the journalists to enable him succeed on the job.
The AIG advised journalists to intimate him on challenges encountered in the course of the partnership meant to safeguard life and property across the zone, insisting that journalism practitioners must focus on those with hidden intentions aimed at exposing those bad eggs of the society.
The police boss told journalists to extend same searchlights on police personnel distancing selves from the media, explaining that the practice of journalism does not reserve any safe haven for bad elements in the society, let alone shielding those with hidden agenda.
According to him, members of the public showing dislike for journalists have something bad to hide away from the rest of public members.
Earlier in his remarks, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Ugber appreciated AIG Achinyan for the resolve to secure the zone notwithstanding the fact that the zone tends to become one of the most hotly crisis ridden places in the North Central Nigeria.
He appreciated the AIG also for the confidence reposed in the media as exemplified by the audience granted the Forum of Investigative Journalists and the audience the police boss granted the NUJ clearly demonstrated true partnership.
Appreciating the AIG further, Ugber noted that since assumption of duty in the zone, politicians have not been allowed to harass any journalist in the state and appealed to the 43rd AIG for the Zone to keep doing the good work and appreciated him again for ensuring that the road blocks have been reduced and eased flow of traffic on the highways.
He appealed to the AIG to extend the same measure to the rural areas where some personnel appear suffocating the users of motorcycles.
