Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi on Friday, graced the burial of former Senator representing Ebonyi South District at the National Assembly, Sen. Anyim Ude.

Three former Ebonyi governors, and then Military Administration, serving and former senators among others were at the burial at Iyioji, Akaeze in Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi.

The former governors are Dr Sam Egwu, Chief Martin Elechi and David Umahi while the former Military Administrator is Walter Feghabo.

Akpabio represented by the Senate Deputy Leader, Sen. David Umahi, eulogised the veteran journalist, urging his children to sustain his ‘incomparable’ legacies.

“The 9th Senate honoured him and the 10th session honoured him three times.

“When his achievements and character were read at the floor of the Senate, everyone stood still,” he said.

Akpabio urged Nigerians to emulate the deceased as people would always be honoured when they serve well.

“When money, health and others are lost, some things are lost but when character is lost, everything is lost,” he said.

Nwifuru condoled with the family and urged them to unite in facing challenges occasioned by his demise.

“I specially commend his wife for taking care of our father up till this stage.

“Any woman who takes care of her husband up till 80 years of age should be commended especially when it involves only one wife.

“I urge the first son, Nnanna to take care of his siblings and be tolerant of their actions as a father,” he said.

He assured the family that the state government will always support the family to cushion the effect of his demise.

“Anyone who loses the father must suffer in one way or another for his absence; this is a reality.

“The government will also donate N15 million to the St. Andrews Presbyterian church which he built for renovation,” he said.

His Eminence, Ekpeyong Akpanika, Prelate and Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria urged leaders to emulate the virtues of the deceased and realise that wealth ends on earth.

“The current removal of fuel subsidy is hard on Nigerians as leaders can provide free transportation for the people to cushion the effects,” he said.

The former governors of the state among others eulogised the deceased who died on May 15, aged 82. (NAN) (
