All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed firm optimism that it will clinch victory in the upcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for November 8, positioning its candidate, Mr. Nicholas Ukachukwu, to become the 26th APC governor in Nigeria.
Speaking at the party’s grand campaign rally in Onitsha on Friday, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, officially presented the party flag and its iconic broom symbol to Ukachukwu and his running mate, Sen. Uche Ekwunife, describing the APC as a “messenger of hope.”
Yilwatda, addressing the enthusiastic crowd, declared that change was imminent in Anambra State.
> “We have only 196 hours for APGA to end its reign in Anambra. In eight days, there will be no governor in Nigeria that will bear the name APGA,” he said confidently.
He criticised the ruling party in the state, noting that under its leadership, Anambra had lost its economic edge and entrepreneurial vibrancy. According to him, poor infrastructure and rising youth unemployment had stifled the state’s potential.
The APC chairman maintained that the party’s Renewed Hope Initiative, championed by President Bola Tinubu, had already begun revitalizing the national economy and would further transform Anambra once the state joined the APC fold.
> “Anambra is too important in Igbo land to be left in the hands of the opposition. We are taking it back in eight days,” he vowed.
Also addressing the rally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged the people of Anambra to align with the APC, assuring them that they would no longer be politically isolated.
> “My message in Anambra today is to let you know that you shall not walk alone. An adopted son is not the same as a biological son,” Akpabio remarked.
He likened President Tinubu’s leadership to that of “a mother hen spreading her wings to cover her children,” stressing that the South East Development Commission would soon drive economic empowerment and infrastructural renewal across the region.
Akpabio also encouraged the Igbo people, whom he described as “enterprising and visionary,” to vote massively for the APC, assuring that the party would offer them greater political inclusion and opportunity.
Representing the APC Governors’ Forum, Imo State Governor Sen. Hope Uzodimma commended party supporters for their resilience, especially for turning out in large numbers despite heavy rainfall.
> “APC is not known for violence. As you campaign, shun violence and let INEC do its job. There will be a free and fair election, and no one will stop you from casting your votes,” he assured.
Uzodimma added that the party was committed to protecting democracy and ensuring that every vote counts.
Before the rally, APC leaders and candidates visited the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, who offered royal blessings to the campaign team ahead of the election.
