Borno Govt. inaugurates committee for AfCFTA Sub-National Strategy Workshop

Borno State Government on Tuesday inaugurated 8 member Technical Working Committee (TWC) for The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Sub-National Strategy Workshop under the Chairmanship of the Hon. State Commissioner, Ministry of Trade, Commerce and Tourism Alhaji Yarima Lawan Kareto.

Other members of the technical working group inaugurated include – The Managing Director, Borno Investment, Company Limited, Hon. State Commissioner of Finance, Hon. State Commissioner of Health, Special Adviser on Job Creation, Christopher Akpaba, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance, Representative of the Chief of Staff to the Governor and Special Adviser on Trade and Investment Ministry to serve as Secretary of the Technical Working Committee.

Inaugurating the committee in Maiduguri on Tuesday, the state’s Deputy Governor, Hon. Umar Kadafur, said the AfCFTA connects almost 1.3 billion people across 54 African countries with the aim of creating single market for goods and services in order to deepen economic integration of African countries.

The deputy governor said considering its enormous importance in boosting economy of African Countries, the initiative would no doubt assist Borno State Government in its efforts towards creation of job opportunities for its teaming unemployed youths.

Hon. Kadafur added that the members of the committee were selected based on their proven integrity and records of achievements while charging them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

It could be recalled that the National Action Committee on the Continental Free Trade Area assignment in collaboration with the Nigeria Governor’s Forum is organizing a sub-national workshop with a theme,”Creating Economically Viable Communities” and have directed for the setting up of a Technical Working Group for the workshop which informed the inauguration of the TWG today in Maiduguri.

In his respond on behalf of other members of the TWG, The Chairman, Alhaji Yarima Lawan Kareto thanked the state governor for finding them worthy to serve in this capacity and promised to live up to expectation to justify the confidence reposed in them.
