Borno police, NLC,TUC, other stakeholders meet over fuel subsidy removal

The Borno State Police Command in conjunction with the labour unions, security agencies and other stakeholders have appealed for calm amidst the recent fuel subsidy removal by the federal government.

The joint sensitization meeting with all security agencies had in attendance different stakeholders including the Borno State Chapter of Trade Union Congress (TUC), Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Borno State Traffic Management Agency (BOTMA), NSCDC, IPMAN, KEKE NAPEP, Students unions, civil servants, amongst others

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Abdu Umar, in his address, said it became necessary for the command to call on all the stakeholders for a dialogue over the fuel subsidy removal in order to maintain peace and tranquility in the state.

CP Umar added that the security agents are assiduously strategizing round the clock to ensure there is peace, law and orderliness in the state through joint operational task force while soliciting for the supports and cooperation of all and sundry.

He also assured the labour unions that whatever the outcome of the meeting will be, the police are ever ready to protect lives and properties of the citizens in the state.

On his part, The Garrison Commander, Sector 1 Command, 7 Division, Nigeria Army, Brigadier General Ja”afar Ibrahim, assured adequate and continuous provision of security and working in synergy with other security forces and vigilance to collectively end the insurgency in the state

He further charged all the stakeholders to support and cooperate with the Nigerian Army for the return of permanent peace in the state and the north east region.

While the BOTMA General Manager, who was represented by the Director of Finance and Account, Mustapha Bukar, solicited for calm and a review of the situation with view to ameliorate the suffering of the masses

The State NLC Chairman, Comrade Yusuf, represented by the State Secretary of NLC, Comrade Musa Gwoza, lamented that the N30,000 national minimum wage being paid workers can not cater for the hike in fuel, transportation, and cost of living. .

He added that already all the 36 States of the federation and FCT Abuja Chairmen of TUC and NLC are holding meeting over the fuel subsidy removal with its adverse effects on Nigerians with a view to come up with a resolution.

The Director of State Security Service (SSS), Malam Adamu Umar, and The Sector Commandant, NSCDC, Borno State, Alhaji Farouk Musa, both enjoined people to eschew bitterness and embrace peace and be law abiding to constituted authorities in the society, while urging stakeholders to be conscious of their actions and inactions against the government.

The Secretary, Administration, Governor’s Office, Malam Musa Mallam Bulama, assured of government support to the security agencies in discharging their duties.

He also urged the stakeholders to talk to their members and exercise some restraint over the oil subsidy removal by not taking law into their hands and always support government policies that are made in nation interest.
