Court jails man for 6 months over internet fraud

The convicted internet fraudster, Oyeniran Olamilekan.

Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin, presided over by Justice Adenike Akinpelu has sentenced a 28-year old Electrician, Oyeniran Olamilekan, to six months imprisonment over offences bordering on internet fraud.

Oyeniran was arraigned before the Court on one count charge by the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

In the charge sheet, the accused person Oyeniran Olamilekan, was said to have sometime in June 2020, in Ilorin impersonated as one Mike Johnson a white lady with Gmail account mikejohnson2058@gmail.com.

”It said the accused person fraudulently deceived one Bill Irvin to send $1,100.00 (One Thousand, One Hundred Dollars) to you through gift cards after he made him believe he was a girl in love with him”.

The charge says the offence contravene Section 321 of the Penal Code and punishable under Section 324 of the same Penal Code.

In his judgment, Justice Akinpelu sentenced the accused person to six months imprisonment with an option of fine of N300,000.00 ( Three Hundred Thousand Naira Only).
