As the globe marks the World Human Rights Day, the Executive Director, Allamin Foundation for Peace and Development, Hajiya Hamsatu Allamin has called on Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State to be more committed, responsive and proactive to the support and assistance of the voiceless and victims of the 12 years old Boko Haram insurgency.

Hajiya Allamin also recognized the role and sacrifices of the security agencies particularly, the military and SSS for securing the release of over 3,000 detainees from various detention facilities within and outside the state and country at large.

She recalled that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Justice Abubakar Malami had said at 18th session of the Assembly of State Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague, the Netherlands, that Nigeria is a peace and justice country.

The Executive Director stated this on Friday in Maiduguri, while addressing 8 groups of channel networks representatives, who gathered at the premise of the foundation with placards and banners to commemorate the 2021 World Human Rights Day with the theme: “Reducing inequalities and advancing human rights”.

NATIONAL ACCORD reports that The Human Rights Day is observed every year on the 10th of December, — the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). The UDHR is a milestone document, which proclaims the inalienable rights that everyone is entitled to as a human being – regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Available in more than 500 languages, it is the most translated document in the world.

Hajiya Allamin also said the victims of insurgency have united under the Hire Dole Network and have agreed to support the Federal and Borno State Government in their efforts to end impunity in an attempt to get justice which is paramount and key to the relatives, survivors and victims affected by the insurgency.

She added that Allamin Foundation and the 9 Hire Dole Networks have resolved to partner the government at all levels to ensure victims have access to information and justice.

She stressed that the road to justice for the relatives, survivors and victims of Insurgency, starts with receiving of information, while appealing for the required information on the detained and missing victims should be made public or made available to the various networks and their members who demanded for it.

Hagiya Allamin enjoined Governor Zulum to come to their aid towards recognition, accountability and justice of the citizenry.

“Human rights has the power to tackle the root cause of conflict and crisis by addressing grievances, eliminating inequalities and exclusion, allowing people to participate in decision making process that affect them.

“Societies that protect and promote human rights for everyone are more resilient societies, better equipped through human rights. Equality and non discrimination are key to prevention”, Hamsatu said
