The Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) in Bauchi State has confirmed that seven were killed and 14 others injured in a fatal crash that occurred on new year eve about one kilometer to Badaromo village along the ever busy Bauchi – Maiduguri federal highway in Darazo LGA of the State.
The FRSC Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corp, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to journalists in the state on Sunday.
He said that the crash happened at about 7.35pm while the FRSC operatives arrived at the scene for a rescue operation 35 minutes after they received the report.
He noted that the rescue team rushed the victims to the hospital where seven people, six male adults and one female adult, were confirmed dead by a medical doctor.
Abdullahi said: “Yes, there was a crash which occurred on Saturday, 31st December, 2022, at about 7.35pm at one kilometer to Badaromo village, along Bauchi-Maiduguri federal highway.
“The crash involved two commercial vehicles, a Volkswagen Sharon Minibus with registration number DRZ 47 ZY and a Fiat Pick-up Van. The probable cause of the road traffic crash were speed limit violation and the use of worn out tyres.
“Immediately we got a call informing us of the crash, our men rushed to the scene for a rescue operation. They evacuated the victims and rushed them to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi for confirmation and treatment.
“A total of 21 people, comprising of 18 male adults and three female adults, were involved in the crash. It was there at the hospital that a medical doctor confirmed six male adults and one female adult dead.
“The remaining 14 people, comprising of 12 male adults and two female adults sustained various degrees of injuries.”
He said that the FRSC personnel later cleared all the obstructions from the road to allow for a free flow of traffic adding that the dead bodies were deposited at the mortuary of the hospital.
The FRSC Boss warned drivers against recklessness while on the highway.
NATIONAL ACCORD reports that this is coming exactly 24 hours after four people were killed in a fatal crash that occurred at a junction along Kurum – Bogoro junction in Bogoro local government area of Bauchi state.
The accident which involved two motorcycles, occurred on Friday, December 30th, at about 7pm. Two others sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash that was a head-on collision.
