Gunmen kill 3 policemen in Enugu State

Unknown gunmen have killed no fewer than three police officers in Enugu State.

The gunmen who were in a Lexus Jeep, reportedly opened fire on the moving police patrol van on Wednesday along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu.

NATIONAL ACCORD learnt that the three police operatives sustained severe gunshots wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital.

The spokesman of The Enugu State Police Command, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, has confirmed the incident in a statement issued to newsmen on Thursday in Enugu.

DSP Ndukwe said that the command was on the trail of the attackers who shot the policemen at about 10:15p.m.

He said: “Intensive manhunt operation is ongoing to fish out the assailants”.

“The gunmen who were in a Lexus Jeep opened fire on the moving police patrol van, along Chime Avenue, New Haven, Enugu.

“This development led to three police operatives sustaining severe gunshots wounds and later confirmed dead at the hospital,” he said.

DSP Ndukwe, however, said further information would be given on the development, and assured that the assailants have been tracked and would be apprehended soon.
