Kogi State has been thrown into deep grief following a devastating bus crash that claimed six lives on the Lokoja–Okene highway.
The victims were returning from the 2025 International Day of Persons with Disabilities commemoration in Lokoja when tragedy struck.
State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, described the accident as a painful blow to the entire state.
According to him, the crash has left Kogi “in profound sorrow,” affecting not just the families involved but every citizen.
Fanwo said the state was shattered by the loss of “six precious lives,” adding that thirteen other passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
“We mourn deeply with the families of the deceased and offer heartfelt condolences during this devastating moment,” he said.
Calling it “a dark day for Kogi,” Fanwo emphasized that every life lost diminishes the entire state.
He revealed that Governor Ahmed Ododo has directed that all medical bills for the survivors be fully covered by the government.
To ensure proper care, state officials have already been dispatched to various hospitals handling the victims, offering support and monitoring their treatment.
“Our hearts are with the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy of devastating magnitude,” Fanwo added.
He urged the public to keep the injured in their prayers and asked God to strengthen the bereaved families as they navigate the painful loss.
