The Academic Board of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, has withdrawn 273 students due to poor academic performance across 20 departments and 42 academic programs.
Additionally, six students were expelled for examination misconduct, including impersonation and possession of prohibited materials.
“We withdrew 273 students for failing to meet academic standards, despite providing a supportive learning environment,” said Prof. Salisu Usman, Chairman of the Board and Rector of the polytechnic during a press conference on Monday in Lokoja.
Prof. Usman said the decision was made at the board’s 120th meeting, where it reviewed first-semester results for the 2024/2025 academic session.
The expelled students were found guilty of serious examination offenses, with two from the Business Administration and Accountancy Department and four from the Mass Communication Department.
“The Central Examination Misconduct Committee, led by Dr. Grace Ehimony, investigated the cases thoroughly. Following the committee’s recommendation, the board approved the students’ expulsion without delay,” Usman explained.
The institution said it remains committed to upholding academic excellence and integrity. “We assure that the institution remains committed to upholding academic excellence and integrity,” Usman assured.
He praised board members for their dedication and urged students to stay focused and utilize available resources to succeed academically.
The withdrawn and expelled students have been asked to submit all polytechnic properties, including their identity cards, to the security unit before exiting the institution.
