Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have attacked a military checkpoint on Thursday night, near Zuma rock in Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.
The location, near Madalla Town in Suleja LGA is close to Zuba, along the Abuja-Kaduna highway.
It was learnt that the insurgents arrived at the spot some minutes after 7pm and opened fire on the troops, killing some.
A source said the “terrorists took control of the area for about 30 minutes”.
“The attackers continued to shoot before heading towards the Kaduna axis of the expressway”.
The incident which generated panic among residents and passengers plying the route, also caused a heavy gridlock in the area.
Meanwhile, the situation has been brought under control as soldiers from Zuma Barracks and policemen have been deployed to the scene.
The attack is coming barely 3 days after suspected terrorists attacked guards of the presidential brigade in Bwari Area council of Abuja, killing some soldiers and others injured .
At the time of this report, however, there was no official statement from the military high command confirming or denying the incident.
