Nasarawa Govt grants autonomy to judiciary

Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdulahi Sule has said the state government has granted full autonomy to the judiciary arm of government in the state.

Governor Sule stated this on Monday at a one-day workshop organised for staff of the Nasarawa State judiciary which took place at the Law Auditorium of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

The governor, who was represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Kana Abdukarim, revealed that various courts in the state are being renovated, while training and re-training of judicial staff are currently on going.

He announced that the state government has given approval for e-portal where every information about the state judiciary will be accessable online.

He also commended the state Chief Judge for organizing the workshop which he said will refresh the knowledge of the judicial staff.

In his speech, The Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Aisha Bashiru, said the aim of organising the workshop was to help update knowledge of the judiciary staff for optimum performance.

Justice Bashiru explained that some staff of the judiciary are new on the job and need to be trained, while the old ones need to update operations, hence the need for the training.

While noting that the exercise is in phases, Justice Bashiru urged staff to take the training seriously. She also advised them to contact the Court of Conduct Bureau in order to collect forms to declare their assets before and after their service years.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Keffi branch, Bar. Moses Yakubu Ede, described the workshop as timely as it was long over due for the judiciary staff in the state.

Bar. Ede advised that the exercise should be done on regular basis to broaden the knowledge of the judicial staff in the state for efficiency.

The NBA chairman urged registrars, clerks to embrace the innovations in the judicial system as the state is close to the Federal Capital Territory and must be abreast with the latest judicial practices.

He said as members of one family, the judiciary in Nasarawa State should collaborate with each other for a harmonious working relations.
