Nigeria’s death toll from COVID-19 has reached 973, as total confirmed cases of infection rose to 48,445 on Friday.
These figures were confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) via its Twitter handle @NCDCgov.
The NCDC also disclosed that a total of 329 new cases in the had been recorded country, which shows a slight decrease in the previous infections.
According to the health agency, a total of 35,998 infected patients have so far been treated and discharged after full recovery.
Of the 329 new cases recorded by the NCDC, Lagos State, which has mostly been the epicentre of the virus since it was detected in the country on February 27, recorded the highest number of 113, followed by Kaduna’s 49 with a steady decline in the remaining states listed.
As of August 14, the confirmed coronavirus death toll on the continent stood at 24,660. There are 1,084,687 confirmed infections and 780,076 recoveries, according to the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to Johns Hopkins University, the global total of confirmed coronavirus cases is now more than 21 million. More than 762,000 people have died, while 13.1 million have recovered.
