Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade Headquarters in Lokoja has kicked off its second Annual Range Classification Exercise, set to run from August 25 to August 28 at the Chari Maigumeri Barracks’ shooting range in Lokoja.
Acting Assistant Director of 12 Brigade Army Public Relations, Lt. Hassan Abdullahi, announced the exercise on behalf of Brig.-Gen. Kasim Sidi, Brigade Commander and Force Commander of Operation Accord III.
He explained that the drill is designed to enhance the marksmanship of officers and soldiers while evaluating the operational condition of their weapons.
“This exercise is vital for maintaining the Nigerian Army’s high standards of training, ensuring our personnel are proficient in their shooting capabilities,” Abdullahi stated.
He further noted, “It also allows us to assess and address any issues with weapon functionality promptly.”
To ensure public safety, Abdullahi urged residents of Shettima, Zango, and surrounding communities not to be alarmed by the sounds of gunfire or increased troop and equipment movements during the exercise period.
He also advised locals to steer clear of the shooting range for the duration of the drill.
Abdullahi called on the media to help inform the public, including through translations in local languages, to promote awareness and safety precautions. Conveying Brig.-Gen. Sidi’s gratitude, he encouraged ongoing public cooperation, emphasizing the exercise’s importance for military readiness and community safety.
