The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called on traditional rulers to pray for Nigeria’s progress, citing the nation’s current challenges.
He made the appeal after leading a special prayer following Jumu’at prayer in Sokoto, stressing that prayer is the key to overcoming the country’s difficulties.
According to the Sultan, President Bola Tinubu has requested religious and traditional leaders to offer constant prayers for the nation.
“We know the government is doing its best to reduce hardship, but clearly, more effort is still required,” Abubakar said, highlighting the need for collective prayer and support.
The Sultan expressed concern over the hardship faced by Nigerians, particularly in the North, and urged leaders to take more decisive steps to address these issues.
“Our people, especially in the North, face serious hardship. Leaders must take more decisive and proactive steps to resolve these issues,” he emphasized.
Abubakar encouraged traditional rulers, faith groups, and individuals to organize similar prayers nationwide for peace and progress. He also commended security agencies for their efforts in ensuring citizens’ safety and wellbeing.
As Muslims celebrated Eid Kabir, the Sultan felicitated with them and prayed for the safe return of pilgrims.
He urged Muslims to continue spreading the true values of Islam and to pray for Nigeria and its leaders.
“Only prayer can truly support the needs of any society,” he said, underscoring the importance of faith in overcoming challenges.
